WritingAssignment I recently re-read a classic young adult novel called "Mrs. Frisby and The Rats of NIMH." It made me think about animal stories, and led to this month's assignment. Read all about it...

I don't write many stories from a first-person point of view ("I" rather than "he/she"), but what if a story was told by an animal?

The possibilities for creative expression are terrific. Not only would you have a unique opportunity to view the world from an animal's perspective, but you could express some very interesting thoughts and feelings, too.

It might be too easy if you use your own pet as an example. I think it would be more fun to select an animal that's a little more exotic, and tell the story from their point of view. What if you were a whale that was being pursued by a ship of human hunters? What if you were an eagle that was exploring new territory? What if you were a spider living within the walls of someone's house? Where can your imagination take you with these ideas?

Remember, you're telling this story not from a human perspective, so be careful that you don't place too many human restrictions on your character. Take some time to imagine what their world - and their view of OUR world - might be like.

As always, feel free to comment on This Month's Stuff!
