What Is The Big Brain Club?

People talk all the time about the peer pressure that young people face. Pressure to try drugs, to try alcohol, to try sex. There's a lot of time and money spent on these issues, and that's fine. But you never hear anyone express concern over another form of peer pressure that is suffocating young people: The peer pressure to dumb down. Until now, that is...
Nobody wants to be labeled a nerd, right? Who wants to hear, "What, you got an A on that test? You must be a dork!" Students feel like they either must hide their intelligence, or - even worse - intentionally blow off their education in order to fit in and be cool.
It doesn't have to be that way. Generations coming up have the power to say "I'm not going to sacrifice my entire future in order to be cool for five or six years." These kids are smart enough to realize that once you leave high school, nobody cares anymore about how cool you were. The real world is now in your face.
The Big Brain Club is not only for A students. It has nothing to do with Honor Rolls. It's open to any and all young people who have a brain and aren't afraid to use it. They know they don't have to choose between learning and being cool...you can do both.
They won't fall victim to the peer pressure put on by a small but vocal group that wants to drag them down. Big Brain Club kids see their future, and celebrate their desire to learn and grow.
Big Brain Club kids read and write. They are artists, whether it's music, painting, dancing, or writing. They create. Their minds are sharp and active. Playing dumb is of no interest to them.
The Big Brain Club knows no age limits, no cultural differences, no racial differences. It's about one thing: Expanding the mind.
This site is open to students, as well as teachers and parents. The students will have their own activities, such as reading suggestions, writing tips, writing assignments, and an interactive forum. Teachers and concerned parents will have their own area, with perspectives, classroom topics, reading suggestions, and more.
It's the only site focused on improving the education and exploration of young people by tackling the root issue: Overcoming the peer pressure to dumb down.
It's your site, too. There will always be a place for you to share thoughts and ideas. All I ask is that you forward the link to The Big Brain Club (http://www.bigbrainclub.typepad.com) to every student, teacher, and concerned parent that you know. This "viral" form of spreading a positive message depends on everyone who embraces the values of The Big Brain Club. Thank you!
