More Success for Preston Middle School

Our friends at Preston Middle School, the first-ever in-school partner of The Big Brain Club, are at it again.

This time, they've been selected as a finalist in the 2011 Intel Schools of Distinction Awards (SODA) -- one of 18 schools in the entire country, and one of just six middle schools! Each school is nominated based on their ability to implement innovative math and science programs and for serving as models for other schools.

The winning schools will be honored at an awards reception in Washington, D.C., this September. Winning one of the six top prizes at SODA is worth more than $100,000 in goods and services -- including computer hardware and software, as well as professional development services -- but in the meantime, simply being nominated will net each of these schools a $5,000 award from the Intel Foundation, along with a trip to our nation's capitol for the ceremonies.

And that's not all. One of the nominees will be deemed a 'Star Innovator', and will be awarded an additional $25,000 from the Intel Foundation, along with additional prizes and services from sponsors.

Intel's Schools of Distinction Awards is part of the Intel Education Initiative, a sustained public-private partnership that works with governments in more than 50 countries. Through this $100 million per year initiative, Intel delivers programs which improve the effective use of technology to enhance 21st century skills and to encourage excellence in math, science and engineering.
