Big Brain Club Partner School Wins Major National Award

As the world's largest semiconductor chip maker and a Fortune 100 company, Intel knows a thing or two about the importance of scientific innovation. That's why each year, they honor a small number of U.S. schools demonstrating excellence in math and science education through innovative teaching and learning environments.

To be considered as an Intel School of Distinction, schools must develop an environment and curricula that meet or exceed benchmarks put forth by national mathematics and science content standards. This year, six schools were selected as Schools of Disctinction at a Washington, D.C. gala event, where each was awarded a $10,000 cash grant, as well as a variety of cutting edge products and services for their classrooms.

If you're familiar with The Big Brain Club and our network of school partners, it won't surprise you at all to learn that Colorado's Preston Middle School was among the six Intel Schools of Distinction for 2011. (You may recall that earlier this year, Preston won the Colorado State Science Olympiad.)

Preston was one of only two middle schools in the nation to receive the prestigious Intel award.

Cited for their progressive approach to learning, their wide-ranging partnerships with outside organizations like the Natural Resource Ecology Lab and the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy, and for a student body that scored at or above proficiency at a rate nearly 20 percent higher than the state average, Preston once again demonstrated why their school is so special. They have created a culture of academic pride that permeates their entire campus. You can see it in classrooms, you can feel it when you walk the halls. It's palpable.

Here's what Dom has to say about it:

The Big Brain Club is so enormously proud of the ongoing accomplishments of our very first in-school partner, and we are thrilled (and honored) to be included in Preston's November 10 gala event to celebrate this latest success. Way to go, Pumas! Keep up the good work!
