A Site to Help You Write

Part of the beauty of The Big Brain Club is that we're always on the lookout for tools and resources that will help writers young and old. Consider it a public service that we offer. And today we've got a good one.

Whether you're a closet writer that's still honing your craft, or an aspiring writer who hasn't yet gotten around to penning that masterpiece, or a student who just wants to get a little better at commanding the written word, you're in luck.

There's a website called 750words.com that aims to help you write three pages every single day. Here's how it works: Every month you get a clean scorecard, and the goal is to accumulate points. For each day that you write anything at all, even a single word, you get 1 point. For any day that you write at least 750 words, you get two points. If you string together consecutive days of writing, you earn bonus points. And so on.

It's not a blog, your writing stays completely private, and it doesn't cost anything. It's all about helping you get in the habit of writing every single day. As the site's founder says, "it's a daily brain dump, [but] over time I've found that it's also very helpful as a tool to get thoughts going that have become stuck, or to help get to the bottom of a rotten mood."

You might ask: Why 750 words? Well, because that equals roughly three standard pages, and because that just feels like the right amount for a daily exercise like this. It's long enough to get your creative juices flowing, but not so long as to be a burden. For instance, this post that you're reading right now is already almost 300 words long. Not so intimidating, is it?

We might even suggest using 750words.com as a tool for your journaling. Remember, it's private, and only you can access it, so what goes onto the page stays on the page. Now... get to work. Happy writing!
