"I Hope the Heat Shield and Parachutes Work"
Ron Garan has a cool job -- he's an astronaut. He spent last summer at the International Space Station as part of Expedition 27/28. While there, he conducted experiments and participated in the very last spacewalk of NASA's shuttle program.
Since coming back to Earth in September, Garan has been busy with, among other things, social media. He lit up Twitter with a series of fantastic space TwitPics, and now he's joined the popular Reddit community.
For the uninitiated, Reddit is a social media site that acts as an open forum for people to discuss pretty much everything you can imagine. Garan jumped in with both feet, announcing his presence and inviting the public to "ask me anything."
As you can see from this Discovery News article, the public was happy to oblige. Follow the link to read Garan's interesting insights about life and space, and to watch some video that captures the lighter side of low orbit.
Because when someone answers a question about what was going through their mind while they were at work by saying, "I hope the heat shields and parachutes work"... you know they really do have a cool job.
